First day in Singapore!

We made it to Singapore!! What a flight - 20 hours in the air is no joke, not really sure how my Mom does it every week and always remains chipper and happy! We departed LAX at 1:00pm on January 25th, connected in Tokyo for an hour and landed in Singapore at 1:30am on January 27th. We lost a few days along the way but were able to get to our apartment and settled in just fine, which is what really matters. So accept my apologies if this first blog is a little cloudy, it is probably the lack of sleep/loosing a day along the way syndrome hitting me just now.

Today we got up, Jason a little easier then me as I could have slept for a good five more hours, and headed off to see our new city that we will be living in for the next year. We figured out the subway and headed to our first destination. The concierge told us it was the must see in our area, Orchard Blvd.'s finest, the mall. Frankly the biggest mall that Jason and I have ever seen, as it extended for blocks upon blocks. They had everything from Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, which I squealed when I saw as they don't even have many of those in SF to Levi's, Sephora, Tiffany's, Adidas, Zara and Gap to name a few. Oh and 7-11 that seems to be everywhere here. So as you can see we have come half way around the world to find a bit of home that is overpriced yet comforting.

We saw the Istana house and thought we might be able to go into it, but luckily for the purchased guide book before hand we soon discovered that is where Sinapore's president lives and is well guarded by men with assault rifles. Yikes! Maybe we'll save that for another day...We decided to cool down from the 90 degree heat that I'm loving and Jason is sweating through at a local bar that happens to have a post office in it as well, or does that make it a post office that has a bar or just a post office that you can drink at while you wait in a long line? Regardless, we took a picture. Wondering what people think the most amusing thing in SF is if we think a post office you can drink in is worth a picture...
Off to have dinner at maybe our new favorite food spot: Newton Circus Hawker Centre. We ate there for lunch already today! Bok Choy and some yummy crepe wrapped veggie/shrimp thing that the name escapes me.
We'll write more soon! Lots of love - Jenna and Jason

Another photo by Jason of a pretty building on Orchard Blvd. - I think I was still sleeping to take photos yet :)

7-11's everywhere!

Decorations that hung outside the post office/bar. There were messages in the bottles!

Oh and the photo credit at the top of our blog page goes to Kirsty Edwards Photography - my amazing photo buddy who took our engagement photos in SF before we left!

  3. Thanks for thinking of all of us and taking time to start a blog so we can see Singapore through your eyes.

The pagoda shaped building looks like the hotel I stayed at in 87. It was the Dynasty Hotel then... I think it's a Marriott now. It's a beautiful hotel, or at least it was.

Looking forward to more posts and ways to kill time instead of working (as I should be doing right now).

  7. This is an awesome way to make the miles apart not seem so far... so excited for your guys' adventures together.

oh... and Jenna I loved your first post... it was informative, witty, smart... Jason hope that is a good start to cut down on your writing time?? :) Although in her defense... photo journalism is journalism... So you might lose that battle!

    Miss you already.
